WHO WE ARE?
The Malayali Association of Ottawa (M.A.O.) is a non-profit Cultural organization of people from Kerala, the southern state of India. The Association which was previously known as The North American Malayali Association was started as a small group in 1971. It has since grown considerably from it's humble beginnings. Today it is an independent association of Malayalees in Ottawa with a growing membership count and an active annual calendar of events.

ABOUT KERALA
Kerala, a state on India's tropical Malabar Coast, known for its unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the world.

The palm-lined beaches, stretches of emerald backwaters, Ayurveda, Western Ghats mountain range whose slopes support tea, coffee and spice plantations as well as abundant native wildlife to name a few. Being the gateway of Monsoon rains onto Indian subcontinent makes Kerala exquisitely beautiful during this season. Kerala is one of India's most progressive states in terms of social welfare and quality of life. The State boasts of one of India's highest literacy rates, highest life expectancy and lowest child mortality rates. Kerala also has a rich history of spice trade, bringing traders from across the world and thus adding different flavors to lifestyle of Keralites.

OUR OBJECTIVES
To act as a common platform for collaboration, communication and Socio Cultural exchanges for Malayali (Kerala) community in Ottawa region. An association for the Malayali community in Ottawa by the Malayalees in the region committed to:

  1. Identify and Deliver the Cultural programs, Social events, Charity outreach initiatives for the benefit of its community members
  2. Act and Respond on the calls to represent the Malayali community and Kerala’s identity in Ottawa / Canada
  3. Facilitate coordination and collaboration of its members and resources to deliver on its committed goals
  4. Student / Youth outreach, support initiatives to educate them on the Heritage, Culture and Traditions of Kerala and integrate with Malayali community in Ottawa / Canada
