Dear  *|FNAME|* *|LNAME|*,

CALL FOR MAO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 2021-22

The current Executive Committee (EC) would like to hand over the mantle of the Malayali Association of Ottawa to a new committee. The malayali community in Ottawa has grown by significant numbers in the recent past and the new EC can continue with our regular annual events and also lead any new initiative. Even though the uncertainly of COVID related restrictions linger, the successful organization of the virtual talent show earlier this year and the active community participation in it is testament to the possibilities in event organization in the current situation.

To start the process of transfer of power, we are writing to you requesting expression of interest in forming the EC for the 2021-22 year. As per the resolution in the last AGM held in spring/summer 2020, under the special circumstances that we are in right now, a new EC can take charge without the community having to organize another AGM. If there are multiple teams stepping up to form the committee and an election is necessary, we will organize a meeting to conduct the election.

The positions that need to be filled to form the EC are:

Positions
President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Member at Large 1
Member at Large 2
Member at Large 3

As a first step, if you are interested in working as part of the next EC in any capacity, please write to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. expressing your intent. Please note that if we have a person with interest in becoming the President, she/he will have the privilege of forming a team of their choice to fill the other positions on the committee.

Dear Friends,

POSTPONED – Talent Show

In light of recent developments in Ottawa with respect to the COVID-19 virus outbreak, the executive committee would like to let you know that we are postponing Talent Show 2020. The overwhelming expert opinion is to “act now rather than later” in flattening out the spread of the disease. We need to do our part as a community and a gathering of 350 people that includes children and elderly people is not advisable at this time.

Recognizing that several members have been practising hard over the last many weeks to entertain the community at the show, we are not canceling the event for now. Currently, we plan to run the event in May. However, we will be monitoring the situation and decide later on the exact date.

As such, we are postponing the AGM to after the talent show in May. If possible, a new committee will be formed by April 30 and they will informally start planning activities for the year 2020-2021, while the present executive committee will plan and run Talent Show 2020. Formal handoff to the new committee will happen at the AGM.

We thank you for your co-operation and understanding as we all go through these unprecedented times
.

COVID-19 Support group

More and more people are isolating themselves in Ottawa to do their part in stemming the spread of the virus. A group of volunteers has approached the executive committee with a willingness to support any community member who has to go through that unfortunate situation. If you are in a self-isolating situation and need help in terms of talking to someone or need food to be delivered to you, please get in touch with us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call Sudheesh Panicker at 613-601-5995 or Maya Sajan at 613-859-5173.

Annual General Body Meeting

The AGM is planned to be held in May or early June 2020. It is the time to think of the executive committee (EC) for year 2020-21. We will form a nomination committee to find us the EC, but if you are interested in representing the community as president and have a team (full or partial) in mind, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before April 30, 2020.
